Annie Thompson CD Cover
This project was a lot of fun, and stretches back all the way to when I was still in high school. Back then, I found this obscure Californian band called Six Foot Santa. And I mean really obscure. To my understanding, they released precisely 100 of their CDs, before disbanding. I downloaded a couple of their tunes, which I still listen to occasionaly today.
The problem is, while I've managed to hold on to the music, I never had an actual CD cover. And, being the geek that I am, it drives me nuts when I don't have album art on my iPod.
The solution, of course, was to design some wicked cover art.
My two favorite songs are "Annie Thompson" - a melancholic but idealized ballad about a friend lost to suicide - and "Sister" whose opening lines drone:
Sister, won't you pick up the phone.
I'm so sick in this city, all alone
These two songs became the ket inpiration for the art, in which I incorporated both the image of a girl (downloaded from stock.xcg) and the vectorized city. I added a bit of grunge, to compliment the raw, garage band sound and threw in a weathered old film strip to alude to the elusive dream that is Hollywood.
And now, you will find this design in my iPod cover flow. And I am well pleased.
